Apple Adds MotionVFX to Final Cut Pro and Opens iWork to External AI Agents

Apple is preparing a broad update to its Creator Studio suite across Mac, iPad and iPhone, according to reporting from Feber. The release, scheduled for November, will be available to subscribers and to owners of one-time licenses. Feber describes it as a substantial refresh touching video, photo and audio tools as well as the iWork productivity apps.

Why it matters

The update pulls in two directions at once. On the creative side, Apple is folding third-party technology directly into its professional video editor, which could reduce the need for separate plugin purchases and installations. On the productivity side, support for the Model Context Protocol opens Apple's document apps to outside AI agents — a move that positions iWork less as a closed ecosystem and more as a surface other software can act on.

For creators who have built workflows around add-on tools, and for teams watching how AI assistants plug into everyday software, both changes are worth tracking.

MotionVFX lands inside Final Cut Pro

The headline item for video editors, per Feber, is that Final Cut Pro on Mac now ships with MotionVFX built in. MotionVFX is known for effects, templates and advanced tools, and the integration brings thousands of these assets into the editor without a separate step. Feber notes that the bundled set covers capabilities such as rotoscoping and tracking.

Rotoscoping — isolating a subject frame by frame — and motion tracking are among the more labor-intensive tasks in post-production, and having dedicated tools for them inside the editor changes how much of that work stays in one application. Feber frames the addition as the heaviest news in the update for people working with video.

The rest of the creative lineup also gets attention. Pixelmator Pro, Apple's image editor, gains a text-driven Generate Fill feature, which lets users describe what they want and have the app fill it in. Logic Pro, Apple's audio software, receives an improved Stem Splitter alongside a new smart assistant. Feber does not detail how the assistant behaves or what the Stem Splitter improvement consists of beyond the upgrade itself.

iWork gains context-aware assistants and MCP support

The productivity half of the update centers on Keynote, Pages and Numbers. According to Feber, the iWork apps get AI assistants that understand the context of the documents they are working in. They also gain support for the Model Context Protocol, or MCP.

MCP support is the more consequential piece. Feber reports that it allows external AI agents to read and edit content and to automate actions directly within the apps. In practice, that means an outside agent could work with a document, spreadsheet or presentation rather than being limited to whatever assistance Apple builds in natively.

Feber does not specify which external agents or developers will make use of the capability, nor does it describe any limits Apple may place on what those agents can do. Those details are not part of the reporting.

What to watch

The update arrives in November for subscribers and one-time license holders. The open questions are how the MotionVFX integration is packaged across license types, and which outside AI agents will actually connect to iWork through MCP once the release lands.
